You're assuming your foreign plane characters can even fathom the power of these gods in Aetheria. Besides, Epic characters aren't that easy to achieve. :)
If you tilt your head far enough and squint hard enough, anything becomes as simple or complex as you'd like--regardless of whether it is or not. -- A lesson learned from Stephen Wolfram's A New Kind of Science
they may not be easily achieved but they arent immpossible, therefore billard's lil "event" tho highly doubtful is possible...
hmmm, for your head... Can we have sumthing that makes a player drop thier head when another faction kills em?
or when you find about 10 PC's from another faction coming for you with orders from Tiamat for your head.Its how you discover that there is a secret sect of dragon worshipers in your town when 6 or 7 town guards suddenly turn hostile to only one player in the whole town after an off color comment about dragons

I was just thinking back to the specs in the old D&D Deities and Demi-Gods book. Most of the gods there were not terribly better than a high level epic character is now. My idea is that although the DMs may be all powerful, some of the gods they play may still be less than omnipotent and thus a strong party could take one on. Just trying to be creative here folks!
thats exactly what I was wondering about when I started this post. I'm not saying DMs should be killable but maybe deities should at least be able to be "temporarily incapacitated" by powerful epic level parties.

LOL... NWN is "basically" a D&D 3.0 environment with a few modifications thrown in. Has anyone here actually read the 3.0 Deities and Demigods rulebook? Those gods are OFF THE HOOK!! Deific powers like:
* Always rolls a 20 to hit (check for crit)
* Always rolls maximum damage.
* Always rolls a 20 for saves.
* Rolling a 1 is not a critical failure (but still is for you).
* All spells considered Maximized (and other automatic Meta-feats you don't have access to)
* Alter Reality at will.
No, not every deity had everything listed above, but you can bet the Greater Deities of a particular pantheon did. Thor is crack-monkey bad. By himself. Then let him hit you with Mjolnir. From miles away, where you couldn't even see him.
My point being, a DM kill switch for some gods is not EVEN pushing the limits of believability. It is obvious from the book that only Rank 0 - 2 deities could ever be challenged a level 40 character. Heck, Imhotep was a level 20 ARTISAN (NPC class) and could kick most epic characters' collective arses.

you could do it the call of cthulhu way... they can theoretically be killed, but they are just so insanely powerful, that you yourself would have to be a god to win a fight against them, and on top of that, there is no way to kill the greater gods permanently.
for example: azathoth(one of the outer gods) has well over 2000 hp... has damage reduction of 55/+4(keep in mind this is supposed to be similar to the real world though, no magic weapons laying around, so an NS god would probably have around 55/+20) has fast healing of 200 hp, SR 52, and thats just for starters... there is no way you could beat this guy unless you got help from one of the other elder gods.

"O cruel fate, floating through the void of space like gravity's plaything. O to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones, it bones for thee."

I have read the book, and the DM kill switch sounds very close to a divine feat called "Life and Death". In short, it allows the deity to kill or raise any being that they are aware of.
I do like the idea of such hunts, but they would have to be done on one of a god's avatars. Assaulting a god with a PC is never going to be practical.
