Dispelling

Post by Cluster »

Im curious as to what ways the dispelling spells have been modified. I really doubt they hold strictly to their descriptions. I have two cases that backup this assumption, though one cant exclude luck, it seems kinda sketchy.

On a couple of different raids in NS with my cleric, i came into a couple of PvP battles. First one was a mage that hit me with mords. I had 14 cleric lvls at the time. Another raid shortly later i came across a druid that thought a g dispell would be funny :P . At this point i had 15 cleric lvls.

Now the part i found wierd, the mage managed to knock off a little over half my buffs, and the druid stripped me naked.

According to the descriptions, the numbers would work like so...

Lvl 14 cleric Vs Lvl 22 Sorc
20 + d20 vs DC 25
Need to roll 6+
Striped about 2/3 buffs

Lvl 15 cleric Vs Lvl 23 Druid
15 + d20 vs DC 26
Need to roll 12+
Stripped every buff, (tested this again to make sure it wasnt luck)

So how do dispells work here?

There's a bio fix that should help in 1.65...but it may not :?

Mord's has a cap on the number of things it should check for, but probably shouldn't while there's caps on the number of things the dispel line will attempt against depending on caster level and abjuration foci. Needs looking over anyway, discuss.

Caster should get feedback on how many things are attempted to be dispelled (Mord's being a special case since it's a breach also: there's a set of spells it automatically removes).

I asked the player with the druid what he had got for feedback, and apparently the maximum on his g dispell is 20, not the 15 stated in the spell description.

Im not sure how easy/possible this may be, but would it be possible to factor in foci/ability mod to add to the dispell roll? Lower the maximum level back to 15, one could focus upto 6, add on their ability mod(or maybe only half). This would give more reason to those who buff to take much higher levels, since currently only 29 levels are needed to be as close to immune as possible. Would give those sorc/pally/monk builds a little something to worry about, instead of just laughing in your face over dispells. With +16 wis, this would give the possibility of upto a 37 + d20 (38 lvl sorc having a 49 DC).

This may go and scare some casters, but dont forget, this requires 3 feats and an almost pure focus in ability pts to their spell ability. A cleric with +11 wis and no spell foci is still only gonna be able to roll upto a 46.

Basically the idea is to bring the dispell rolls up somewhere closer to where the DCs can land. Not sure how bad this would throw the balance off on those that dont plan on 25+ lvls in a caster class though. Dont know too many ppl that would like having to take 35 cleric just to keep their buffs intact. If possible the DCs could scale up on a decelerating rise, instead of linearly, giving those at lower lvls a little better chance, but still giving the high lvls the DCs they worked for.
