Companions, familars & summons

Post by LoZen »

I have been reading and re-reading the documentation section to learn about all of the new customized content and scripting, and I must say it is all fairly well presented. However, I know that the summoned creatures for NS are all custom also, and I believe the familiars and animal companions have been tweaked as well (correct?)

Is there any chance of getting documentation on these custom critters? Stats, special abilities, etc? And the familiars/companions get more powerful/new abilities at different levels, right? I know you are all busy getting the open beta going, but this would be a great thing to have in the documentation section. Just an idea :)

All of the summons have been tweaked.

Companions and Familiars however have not. .. yet..

That being said, they do quite well in their stock form for some reason.

We may end up tweaking the higher lvl versions but that remains to be seen.

will summons depend on the alignment of the caster like it does in DnD?

Yes, for levels 1-5 or so. Higher than that and you start getting random elementals and planar creatures.

Thanks for the reply, DD. Is there any chance you could post the stats for the summons then? Or is that considered classified information?

Also, do you know of any place that lists stats for the stock companions? I had a 10th lvl Druid on NS3 with a pet bear that had 9 lvls of Paladin. I know the panther is supposed to do stealth/sneak attack, so I assume it has Rogue levels. As far as wolf/boar/badger go I have no idea. But my bear could cast Bless, heal me, etc. Does anyone know of a place online that lists stats and abilities for those critters and at what levels they get them?

I have a feeling I'll be trying a Druid of The Circle at some point. I would like to know more about the animal companions though, especially for levels 20+ (just trying to plan ahead).

The companions in NS3 are quite modified from the standard versions... The easiest way to look at the companions stats would be to import them into the toolset and check them out there.
There are three types of people in the world; those who can count, and those who can't.

But the companions in NS4 will NOT be modified apparently (at least not yet).

I checked the information that you get in game on companions and familiars (when you choose one at a new level) and found that it was sorely lacking. It tells you their starting skills/feats and special ability progression by level but at higher levels they gain feats, spells, etc that aren't listed in the description. You have to actually look at their feat list by examining them, or possess them to see what spells they have. The Eyeball familiar doesn't even say anything in its description other than that it can cast spells! What spells? How many?

Does anyone have any clue where this information might be found?

Does the pale master's undead critter count as a pet/companion or a summons, and has it been tweaked?

Prc summons have been tweaked some.

Hint for lvl 1 summons. They all geat 4 cure minor wounds to save your [censored] from bleeding if your alone. Just right click the radial menu and tell them to heal you a few times.

Yeah I'm curious about this too, and not only pale master, what about Blackguard creatures, and the Shadow that Shadowdancers get, and the shadow that clerics get if they choose Evil domain.

it's death domain actually... and i would expect that they modified it seeing as they even modified in in ns3... it still sucks, but it has 500 hp.
