Griefing?

Post by Zhorn »

Many people have differing definitions of "Griefing". Random PKing, Repeat PKing and of course good old fashioned Raise-Killing (which has no point here btw).

Now players in NS4 are caught up in a Faction War. This means that a large number of people are automatically Hostile. Which has the happy effect of making your pets go for them and also means that when they pop on the screen you automatically feel a bit edgey and have the urge to kill them. Well ok maybe thats just me......

So anyway, why are people surprised then, when a Wizard pops out of Invis and kills them? Or when they round a corner and a Warrior/WM starts to do the Happy Crit Dance of Quick and Bloody Death with them?

Last night me 13th Wizard saw an 13th-ish Rogue and gave them the Big Finger (of Death) and they were like "WTF?? Why'd you do that??".
So I engaged in a spot of RP and said "The Dragon Over-lords are the one True Rulers! All others will perish". But then I got soft and rezzed them.
Earlier in the day I'd stumbled across a Dark Elf or two and gave them the finger as well. Then later I ran into an effortless hostile Dwarf guy so I just webbed him and hit him with a few magic missles to put the fear of God into him. Me and a cleric buddy also tried to hunt down a (higher level) Dark Elf cleric but DAMN clerics are just sooooo hard to kill. Sheeeesh!

I've also been on the receiving end of people hacking me to death because I show up hostile to them. Ah well! :)

Now I *like* to kill players. I also hate breaking unwritten rules and getting banned. So are there any rules regarding PvP except "Dont Do it in Avendell"? Like "Dont kill Effies unless they start it" or can I just go on a Kill Crazy Rampage of Destruction?

There are no bannable rules except the avendell sanctuary (even then, there are known repeat offenders *cough* Bill of NR *cough* that go unbanned).

The rest is up to you. Certainly, as the Okies proved before being chased away, the killing of effortless characters does not bring any sorts of punishment.

You seem to fall into the RP category; therefore, play your character. If you are lawful good, don't attack unless struck first and no remorse is shown...lawful evil, fight back even if the attack was accidental...chaotic good, kill all evil...chaotic evil, kill all...you get the picture...

And yes, the Dragons do in fact rule all.

I think Zhorn your comments totally contradict the statement made by BestDeception that "You seem to fall into the RP category; therefore, play your character". Yes the server is based on a Faction war ;).

Please correct me if I'm wrong but in another post you mentioned your Wizard was neutral by this I would take it as totally neutral (N).

For some reason players believe that N alignment is akin to or the "new" CN alignment allowing them to do whatever they please. The more obvious interpretation of selecting true N is so a player can avoid every RP aspect of the game ie. Smite Evil/Good, bonuses vs lawful/chaotic and bonuses vs evil/good ie prot vs align etc. This smacks of Powergaming and not RPing.

Your comment of:

" Now I *like* to kill players. I also hate breaking unwritten rules and getting banned. So are there any rules regarding PvP except "Dont Do it in Avendell"? Like "Dont kill Effies unless they start it" or can I just go on a Kill Crazy Rampage of Destruction? "

Says quite categorically that you are not RPing. For the only alignments that would want to go on a crazy killing spree would be evil characters of NE or CE alignments as LE are usually honour-bound.

Now getting back to your Neutrality it makes perfect RP sense that for every 1 EFFORTLESS you kill you should be ending the life force of 1 IMPOSSIBLE or as an example for every 1st level noob you kill you should be doing away with a 40th level veteran. Kill 1 good for 1 evil and then you can claim to be playing your Neutral alignment because it is ALL about BALANCE.

Killing everything/everyone is not balance it is anarchy.

This is something you may or may not want to take on board. It's entirely up to you.

And no I have never been a victim or aggressor towards your character(s); so this is not sour grapes or grandstanding but a comment on attitude to others and allowing all to enjoy the NS4 universe.

The tone of your post was one of self-focus where as an RPer usually focuses on more than their character but the whole RP environment they are a part of.

Cheers,

kgb

i don't know about killing everyone and everything. i have killed quite a few effortless during the hours that ns front gate is under my taxation. i have also engaged a few very impossible players in combat and won a few(some ppl know who holy bolt thunder lover :: DD:: is). some of the effies consider it griefing if u kill them for no reason, and some of the impossible consider it griefing if u kill them also since your effortless. i think as long as u can rp to a point of not being a total butt that u can get away with alot and not worry about it. just remember a kissmoot will be arranged soon for all the followers of Shar to show how the night is still dangerous
when death comes for you and you are not afraid, if he asks why tell him you met me

kgb,
I am Lawful Neutral. Which normally means "abiding by the laws of the land you are in". I am in the Sleeth faction and have been commanded to KILL the opposing factions. Thus by killing every Hostile person I see I am following my order to the letter.

So yeah :) Watch out all you nasty people that show up "Red". You're in for an asskicking.

I get a particular sense of achievement when an "Impossible" player fails their save vs Death magic and dies by my hand (or Finger (of death)).

You sir are a liar, for I have been attacked by you and I am sleeth. You do not role-play, you just like to kill and you do so on the very gates of Advendell and sometimes with in the city limits. Now, that said, I killed you, so I am not to concerned, but by making enemies, of even your own faction, you are asking for ddeath, and it is coming your way whever I see you.
"You there, fetch me that gem encrusted skull," commanded Robillard to his Ogre henchman.
"Uh, okay," last woirds of Grogg, son of Grogg as he reached for the Demi-lich.

Hmm... What's your name?

I normally only bash people who show up as hostile.

FYI The only fight I've ever had in Avendell was initiated by some dwarf I'd whacked earlier. It's against the rules to start fights there AFAIK.

What kind of crack are you smoking???? And where can I buy some?
