so im really confused...you are endorsing the slaughter of new players and characters, yet casting flesh to stone is frowned upon. im not sure what message is being sent...DrakhanValane wrote:Rule of the wild: Pick off the young and the weak. It's a greater reward to work ratio.
its ok to kill a brand new player over and over so much that they stop playing, but casting flesh to stone on a higher level is frowned upon because the PC gets an XP penalty if they dont wait out the spell duration? what gives?

PK is allowed. Flesh to Stone is allowed (but we request that you don't use it much due to bugs). Going after and hunting down the same person repeatedly is not.

Hmm. I've never reade Wired, so I couldn't have gotten the term from there. I got its use from mmorpgs I read about and one I played last year.
I still think being able to opt out of being pked would be great. of course, someone who opted out of being pked, couldn't pk someone else.

MMORPG, opt-in PvP is the only way to go unless you only want a small hard core following that also does it's damnedest to get around the subscription fees and cheat as much as possible.
We're not a MMORPG. Opt-in PvP isn't really an option...maybe there's something we could cobble together, but the engine will fight every step of the way (going area based PvP/no PvP limits other things we want to do).
PvP as a major focal point of the game is not something I'm really thinking of for the final version--especially with the with hurdle of having it in DnD ala NWN.

Jesus whats wrong with you all? What happened to the awesome idea of banding together into leagues to stop PKers? If the problem is so bad, then work together as a COMMUNITY to solve it IN THE GAME. Jees no wonder the commmunity is falling apart, rules have to implemented by DMs and Devs simply because the players can't figure out how to work together. Listen, I know it sucks to be PKed, you can look at my lame-o Grievance post from months ago, it pisses me off. Now that I have a lvl 20 char, I can defend myself, and I also defend those who are to weak to defend themselves. Thats what the good players should do when they have spare time, protect the weak, help the poor, work together. But instead, we just have high lvl chars, some who moan and groan, others who are apathetic, and a swelling new player base which is starting to falter because NO ONE is helping them out.
For the new players, you need to work together to get EXP, even if its outside of faction alliances, its more important to lvl than to RP the war when you're that low in lvl.
Older players, come on, PKer's will be around for ever, we don't need rules to say what is and isn't off limits, what we need is someone who will lay the smack down on PKers. For heavans sakes it should be the veterans who have high lvl chars that handle griefing and PKers.
This shouldn't be a problem people, if you don't like PKers, then you have to solve the problem IN GAME. Complaining on the forum doesn't do a thing, other than alienate yourself from the older members on these posts. The best move is to seek help from your own faction, or barring that, ask around for help, throw out KoS orders, something like that. And If Im online, you can always ask my char ATI_Rage to help out and deal justice to PKers.
On another note:
If you have excess items and money, please, be a Robin Hood and give it to the lower level players. They are young, they need the gold pieces.

@Agent Shiny, true, but what is justification, what defines it? My opinion of a justified kill may be totally different than yours. Just something to think about.
Most of the time I will go out of my way to help people, but the type of newbs popping up on the server as of late, disturbs me. You know the kind, beggers, whiners, and constant shouters. They seem to harbor a complete lack of respect for anyone else or the community and do things that are not accepted on any server I've ever been on, like curse in shout.
When I was young, I stayed far away from anyone that showed up as red. I made a point to run from them, as I knew anyone attacking my town guards was most likely able to wipe the floor with me. I grouped with other newbs and tried to level as fast as possible, which I did with some success.
It is not the high level person's responsibility to watch out for the newbs its the newbs job to watch out for the high levels, because the high level players are the ones able to kill them. If a high level offers a person assistance then be respectful to them, they don't ~have~ to help you.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, the newbs have to watch out for those who will kill them and be more respectful when dealing with those that rate impossible to them. Its a good rule of thumb to live by in an online full pvp environment.

from my experience, the veterans of NS are guilty of this, and when the new players see that kind of crap on the shout channel, well, they think its ok to follow suit. i turn off the shout channel when i play because its too much of a distraction to me, and frankly the content of the shouts is usually immature and annoying.Ryu Ironclad wrote:@Agent Shiny, true, but what is justification, what defines it? There's 2 sides to this coin, methinks.
While i dont go around helping every noob i see (there is value in learning the world and "earning your place" in it) I also dont ignore somebody who really needs help or tips to start out. Just yesterday, rescued a lvl 3 who was in the bandit hideout off silver road, bend. Told them to stick with gobbies and bugs until they hit lvl 5 or so, then try again. Then gave them 50k in gold to help get their char really started out well.
Its all a matter of balance. If we, as established players play the "clique" roll, then chances are this community wont get a good rep as a place to have fun and be a part of. If, however we show that we're willing to help those who really need it, instead of just having babies who ride on our coat-tails, then im sure we'll see community growth.

I just don't see why we can't just help out our younger counter parts. ITs hard enough for characters to lvl with the servers being down all the time and so forth. I GIVE people my stuff, with ILR's they still have to "earn" their place in this world by gaining lvls. I just don't see why its hard for more and more players to give away their extra items. For example, I've given out gnoll king items, probably 10 ogre magi staves, the north star, vampire cloth, and so forth to lvl 1-12 characters. I also give out TONS of money to characters. Why? because there is NO and I mean NO negative to giving out items for free. All it does is make a more cohesive environment for everyone else.
As for PKing, please people, the ohesive environment teh devs wanted is not even close to being in existence. Why can't we just all work together and be nice to each other? I don't know. But oh well.
