Explanation of Item level restrictions?

Post by Mun Zu »

Could someone please clarify how we know what items we are able to use? I am a level 6 cleric with a fair amount of gold to play with but i find that there are extreamly few items i can use and have seen no change throughout the levels.

Thanks in advance

When you go to pick up items in a store you can try them on. If the item unequips itself automatically then you cant wear the gear. In the 2nd text box it will display in yellow wether what level you have to be to use the gear.

Also, until about lvl 9 gear is kind of skimpy. So dont expect to wear the best things you find in the vendor's stores because chances are you can't wear it. Another way to see if you can wear it is that you can only wear +1 gear at lvl 3 +2 or 1d6 dmg items at lvl 6 at lvl 9 you can wear +3 and at lvl 12 its +4 and lvl 15 = +5. That is the basics on what you can and can't buy.

the level breaks are at 5, 9, 13, 16 and I have found 1 lvl 20 item.

Highest level items you can buy are 13, in avendell only.

For armor, AC bonus maxes out at lvl 13 at +3, then at 16 you can find a couple that give +4 vs a certain race. For weapons, generally you get +1 items at 9, +2 at 13 and +3 keen at 16.

Of course all of these items have a basic suite of powers. Weapons add basic damage up to elemental damage and extra effects, armor has damage resist and reduc in increasing levels and a couple of minor powers added for some drops, like regen or a bonus to a type of save.

Hitting the level 16 break is a huge jump in character power. My tank got pretty beefy at that point.

Also, when the documentation site gets back up, you'll notice that all item lvls have a certain nomenclature...

Iron items are lvl 1 items

enhanced steel items are lvl 5

Imbued steel items are lvl 9

Enhanced Mithril is lvl 13

Imbued Mithril is lvl 16

After that I have no clue and those names only work for armor, shields, and weapons....But it works the same with boots, amulets, rings, helmets, cloaks and so forth :D
I've tried fire, i've tried faith, and i've tried force, all I have left is hope.

Correction:
Masterwork Iron
Masterwork Steel
Enhanced Steel
Enchanted Mithril
Imbued Mithril

I think Silvery or similar is up higher.

The non-metal items work similarly but with non-metallic names. :)

Jewelry is:
Brass
Silver
Gold
Platinum
some higher?

Cloth & Leather Armours:
Tailored
Masterwork
Enhanced Fine
Enchanted
more

Other accessories I'm too lazy to add at this time of night. They're all pretty independent for the rest (but you can discern categories anyway).

I imagine it's on a faction boss. :)

House Meurne Sacrificer, Vorpal version is lvl 20. Double Axe tho.

Didn't know about the Silver SS being lvl 20, heard about the Staff of the Dead.

I think I know where the staff drops, but I don't think the SS drops from a faction boss. I've killed them all multiple times (cept AO only killed them once but they don't drop uniques) and never seen one drop.
