I'm thinking of adding the gp value of items to the wiki. This is to help players with two things, trading items (knowing the value of the item on the server may help facilitate fair trades), and determining whether an item is worth looting in the first place.
I've found a discrepancy on prices though. According to the wiki (which I apparently added in the first place...), items sell in shops for 50% of their value. However, I tested it out with some items I bought and sold back to the shop, the sale value was 40% of the buy value. Are the shops buying items back for 50% of their value and adding a 25% markup to what they're selling, or are they buying stuff back for only 40%?

Re: Item values and shops
Discovery of what trivial items bring in the most gold on sale is part of the gaming experiance, imo. Watch the combat window as you add items to the shops counter, the resale value is listed for each individual item. It wont be long before you know which scraps Not to leave behind, any item with the word 'gold' in it, (gold tooth, golden ewer) are obvious choices.
As for non trivial items such as artifacts, thier value at resale is seldom the same as thier value in trade to another player. The artifact item can be quite common (mountain storm plate) that only new to server players will desire them. Or so rare (death rapier) that most players will gut you like a holiday hog and take off with your prise (many would trade a +4 book for that rapier). Those are the two extremes but Im sure you get my point. If you find an artifact item that you dont reconize, just ask one of the guilded toons online for some insight. CLAD has probably the purest of reputations followed by TSS, but even the belly crawling snakes of DD can be trusted, mostly
As for gear you bought in a store, I think the shop keepers pay less than the ussual 50%, cuase thier shelves are already stocked with that item. Yes, there was some RP thought to the construction of NS4. *E-dodges DM lightning*

Re: Item values and shops
Gold piece values for treasure items and gems are already on the wiki (gold tooth and ewer are 288 and 200 respectively, btw). And with those items, weight should be taken into consideration (IIRC the ewer weighs several pounds). In any case, since treasure items have their value listed, there's no reason why equipment should be left out.Shadowalker wrote:Discovery of what trivial items bring in the most gold on sale is part of the gaming experiance, imo. Lisitng the price doesn't mean it needs to be sold at that price; it'll just be there to help players get an idea of how much it might be worth. Naturally, the usefulness or rarity of a piece of equipment will determine its worth as well.As for non trivial items such as artifacts, thier value at resale is seldom the same as thier value in trade to another player. Possibly, but buying and reselling a store item is the only way I can be certain of the resale prices without seeing the shop code. I doubt the shopkeepers are buying those items for less than non sold items though. So either everything is being bought from the player at 40%, or the shopkeepers charge 125% for the stuff they're selling. Either way is the same thing for the player, but it does make a difference when you're trying to determine the full value. As for gear you bought in a store, I think the shop keepers pay less than the ussual 50%, cuase thier shelves are already stocked with that item. I could list the store price for items that can be bought, and the amount you get from the shop for everything else, but that would complicate things a bit more.
