Fair Warning

Post by Shadowalker »

While I was idling in Avendale, I saw a toon (toon-A) go to anvil to drop items they meant to id with another toon. They had asked a low toon of mine for id, and it was beyond my toons meger skill. As toon-A is standing before anvil I noted another toon (toon-B) going up same hill and turn left towards anvil. Thats when toon-B vanished in midstride, did NOT log out. Obvisly a hipser, as toon-B's movement only brought them closer to my own toon. Weither the hipser was intending to steal any items of intrest from anvil I can not say. But toon-B's actions certainly gave them the oppurtunity. I warned toon-A. Now Im warning you.
Prime play time is probably the safest as there are dm's arround that might catch the hipser.

**No offence to all the rule abiding hipser thiefs.

My personal understanding is this:

The anvil in Ave is designed for repairing items. It is not there for use by players for self transferring items even though it is done. I personally will not deal with any items "lost" while using the anvil.

It has been suggested in many other threads not to drop a bunch of items to the ground either for xfer or for any reason but to place them in coffers and then drop the coffer.

In the case of just wanting to ID items with "another" character, there are merchants in the shops that are more than willing to ID those items for you, so don't be cheap and spend some gold.

Now, this is the important thing.... Dropping items to the ground for xfering them to any other PC whether it's one of your own or to someone else... is considered a legal and trusted xfer. Atheria is set up in such a way that, that is the only way one can transfer items. Avendell is "NO PvP" territory where absolutely no offensive/hostile action of any kind, against another, in any form is allowed. Stealing gold or gear from the ground while someone is conducting a xfer is a Hostile action. More so it is dishonorable, unwarranted and extremely bad gamesmanship that will get the DM's attention. With verification, anyone engaging in such an action, stealing while someone is xfering items, will be dealt with harshly.

I might not catch the thief today, I might not catch the thief tomorrow, but I will eventually catch the thief. If you have any doubts just ask... oh yeah... "they" no long play here.

When you xfer items I suggest you always have someone there holding the zone.

just like dropping items on the ground to transfer if someone happens upon it...its your fault for leaving it around.

if you don't like this kind of thing to happen to you ask a player to hold the equipment while you relog. if they take off with it, i'll get them ;). its only illegal to steal from players in avendell when they are trading between 2 players, at which point items have to hit the ground. unguarded items left in odd places have not protection.
Thread is: http://www.nsrealm.com/public/ns/viewto ... &t=1001135

Can the staff clerify stealing in Avendale and Frost Dale. I'm kinda confused and not sure if i'm reading the post correctly? I'm reading this as if you don't have someone else pick up the xfer item thens its ok to steal it? :?

Thanks Moon

I think what was mentioned in the other post is that when items are unguarded and simply left for a relog then there is no guarantee the item will still be there. If there is someone nearby the item in question to protect it then there is a witness to any hostile actions and the DMs will intervene.

I think the real world example of telling a cop you left your wallet on the sidewalk so that you could come back for it later would work the same way.

I think moon was refering to this line:

As for myself, have never used the Anvil. Always another toon or guild chest. And if ever items were of significant value, ie books, I would then ask the helping toon to not only pick up but relog incase of server crash.

I just wanted to warn others, I didnt see the prior warning.
