Someone was just on shout pointing out the fact that since the removal of LA you can no longer play a good aligned Elf Wizard on the server.

This someone makes Sun elf a rare breed indeed.

I am sure it was an overlooked side effect. Just thought i would give it some room to be discussed here on the boards.

Maybe AO needs wizies?

ummm evil elf wizards :twisted: (not that my evil wizard is elf anyway)

But there is a point there only RK can have good wizards, someting about studying magic that makes people evil, or non good?

I think the supposed exodus of Wizards from Sleeth opens up the perfect reason for NC to get them. Sanctum Arcanum is an ally of NC after all.

Wizards in their search for more and more arcane power have come to an upsetting conclusion. The powers that lay hidden inside of the dragons is great and useful. Taking it upon theirselves, some of these wizards have taken in and used some of the citizens of AO for horrid experiments. In response to this travesty....wizards were banned from being a part of their faction in order to protect its' citizens. The dragons of Sleeth also prefer a more "pure" and innate form of arcane magic.

Right I read that too. However was it thought at the time that this would basicly be making Wizard Solars Dwarf/RK only. Again if it was planned that's fine, just seems an over sight to me.

I remember the first day after the wipe a friend of mine rolled up a good elf wizard only to find he couldn't find a faction. I think it was 12/24 hours later they put a devil/Angel in the entry rift portal area so you wouldn't get stuck in limbo. So... I think "They" we're aware of this from day 1 after the wipe.

Well the angel thing i recommended for a difference reason, but it may have played a factor in the actual implementation.

Any who it seems it was well known before the change, as i should have know that all sides are looked at before something as major as a faction being removed is done.

there are a few oddball casualties of balance. no good human/elf wizards, no gith monks in SL, etc. in the search of broader balance there are going to be a few busted corner cases that get the nerfbat through no fault of their own.

i see it as part of the cost of greater balance. it would be impossible to have a consistent system that had no corner case casualties and yet achieved the broader vision for playability. so don't look for the great grand reason why some of these innocuous looking options are not possible. they're a sacrifice on the altar of gameplay.

no gith monks in SL is much different than no good human/elf/halfling/half orc/half-elf wizards and all their sub races (not like anyone really wants a half-orc wizard or even wants to use a half-elf), mainly because it isn't specific to a sub-race and it applies to the entire server, not just one faction. I do think it is a problem because the omission is so broad.

Half-Orc no, Half-Ogre on the other hand... *looks for Lokey or Tep*

Why does the server need Sun Elf wizards? Losing LA means no pally/AAs either, but people hardly ever made them even though they're pretty awesome. SL having no gith monks is a bigger nerf than no wizards for AO... sorcs FTW.

Yeah RK is nerfed pretty heavily come to think of it... :D :D No Gith monks either

Well, we play them because they're lame--giving people somewhat of a fighting chance (if Tep made Svirfs there'd be no end to the tears). If you really milk something for all it's worth, you can get away with being hogre (the stat hits really hurt anything).

I do like to talk them up though ;)

Bah, the really crappy builds are the most fun to play most of the time.

And hOgres rock! StR based half ogre great axe weapons master! Or double axe dual wield Weapons master@!
