pale masters

Post by murray_ns3 »

i dont see any reason for this 10 levels wiz or sorc for pm thing

i mean that pm isnt lame for melee toon. dragons in my opinion are lame. you see they can solo everyting. palemaster only gives some xtra ac and immunity to critical and sneak attack.. i think this 10 levels wiz or sorc is too much

plz reply

The Dev's don't like the Bard/PM/WM munchkin build. Arguably with the introduction of the shifter scripts I can see your point. Probably to do with making it more of a caster specific class since the balancing act with that is your PM levels don't count towards casters but you get extra AC, hp's and are immune to crits. Whereas with the melee builds the only negative is that you generally end up with 3 attacks per round (ignoring haste). The melee's end up as damned fine tanks whereas the casters end up slightly less powered but still reasonably squishy (as is their nature).

That's all IMHO of course, I'm sure Fang will pass comment shortly.

the difference between a bard/pm (like the 25 ftr 5 bard 10 pm build) and the dragons is that bards can get a good crit range and really pump dmg, while the dragons are sloooooow. i hate getting stuck begind a dragon in a linear area because, even with a high ab, they take forever to kill things in comparison to a caster or better melee. they're safe, but slow.
I taste of this server!

I think folks are aware of my mild dislike of the dragon shifters and their frequency on the servers. North had a mild nerf in place for a few months a while back, but the backlash against it forced me to reverse it. :P

As for Palemasters, that change predates my time as a developer, and even an NS 3.5 DM (by about 6 months). I've considered changes to it, given what we see with dragon shifters and their popularity, but given the time the dev is now devoting to NS 5, I think its safe to say things will just stay the way they are.

The dragon build is still slightly nerfed on the North server but they are strong enough as it is. The reason for the PM class change was because of their overwhelming power when the change from 20 lvls to 40 came about. there werent as many areas then and they were way too powerful. you could pretty much make a toon that was impossible to kill. I know because i had made one but found it to be boring so i stopped playing it. I think the PM restriction could be changed somewhat but i would still have a restriction on them from becoming too powerful. But with the Dev team working full time on NS5 we run into the same problem as with most ideas. That is they simply dont have the time to keep bouncing back to ns3.5 to make changes.
