aka "Boots of Freaky Monk Speed"
After running around with 25 levels of monk, going back to mere haste is ... annoying. So-called "Speed Boots" are virtually useless, as they only confer haste. Why not some "Speed Boots" that actually confer some actual speed... say, +25% (or +33%).
Aside from this making monks who already have freaky monk speed from being even MORE likely to run into walls, it doesn't seem to be /too/ unbalancing. Gaining fast movement seems balanced against giving up some of the ubergear bonuses.

Monks wouldn't be a problem, just make the boots unusable by monks.
However, I'm not sure how useful they would be. Haste is desirable more for the AC bonus it gives than the actual speed. How many would be willing to give up a +4 AC in order to run into walls very fast?

I'm probably poking my head where it doesn't belong... but if you can run away fast enough, you don't need AC.
Quickslots to change gear are pretty nice too

On 3.5 servers we seldom run away. Remember these are non PVP. Its more a matter of navigatiing maps fast.

On some maps, *me*. Especially after I've been playing a monk for awhile. Normal hasted movement feels like encumbered walking.DM Sun Tzu wrote: How many would be willing to give up a +4 AC in order to run into walls very fast?
Also, the other night we were taking someone to LP, and the three of us that were taking him had monk levels. It was a bit disconcerting for him.
Hm. If not boots, how about a potion of freaky monk speed?
Have an item like the energizer that destroys something (say, up to 10 potions of speed for # potions * 5 % speedup potion, that is, 10 potions give a 50% speedup potion, while 2 only gives a 10% speedup potion), usable only by epic monks, and as the reward for a new monk-specific quest (on new maps where hide, move silently, and quivering palm could be useful)?

Why usable only by epic monks?

Trying to avoid removing a monk advantage w/o an offsetting downside; it becomes a "here, keep up with me" capability for (fast) monks.DM Sun Tzu wrote:Why usable only by epic monks?
(Also, I'm fishing for input from others -- "no, don't do that, do *this* instead" comments.)
