Tougher areas
Dr_Fangorn, I share your thoughts on the item immunities issue... I have thoughts my own mod (which I am too lazy to ever do past the planning stage) which has no free feats, immunities, abilities, or resistances... basically, haste is the only thing that is given for free that has a corresponding feat or class ability... the uberness of items comes in the form of improved saving throws vs. a specific such as fear or death (never universal, or a primary save such as reflex). The mod can be balanced accordingly so long as things like this are decided at the planning stage. Like you say, it really is too late to head down this path in ns3.5 because it would mean nerfing almost all of the gear. However, I look forward to ns5 if this (or a similar) philosophy is used.
As far as applying this to ns3.5, I think at least one way is to create a set of gear, beyond the current ns set, which lacks these immunities... maybe even one for each base class (or maybe a few sets that deal to the primary class categories). New areas could then be designed that thrash all but the hardiest of builds using ns gear, but which offer some survivability to purist builds using the new gear set(s).
I'd also like to say - I think this mod is amazing and getting better with every update. The Devs, Ops, and DMs all do a great job.
Racers and anyone else, I don't mind assisting one minute and being killed / seeking vengeance the next - it's all good fun... which leads to the point that MW does present a more challenging environment, due to the PvP. I can't see how that point can be argued. Can it? Annys, what do you think? Annys?

What happened to freedom of speech? Dont bash the girl (Annys) for stating the fact that she is bored and she needs more challenge.. believe me, seems like all the drama is still not enough... and thats completely understandable when you are fifteen
The "Come to MidWest" remarks are getting old.. I did laugh at the first ten times I read it.. but after that it became a plead, like a beggin to join MidWest, even tho, right now, thats not the case, cos MidWest is doing fine players wise. I prefer "Long Live MidWest" tho.. and that sums it all for the "I want this I want that" whiners.

Of course, keep in mind you will most likely die (without receiving a rez) and get stuff stolen from you. But thats hardcore play, and thats how we like it.

yah...ill toss in my two cents. if you can make a toon tough enough to go all the way through starfall, and i mean all the way thru, both poles...solo - then i simply gotta see the build and gear. i HAVE to know... (???)
since i have been here since 3.0 beta, not as long as some, but still ..we were waiting for the 2nd lord of the rings movie when i joined play - i have to disagree with you on the lack of things to do and on the lack of new things being introduced.
this is the largest, most complex, most stable, longest lasting mod i have ever seen NWN format...i personally have tried many and always come home.
while i know the cries of "MW! MW! MW!" are a little old, they are repeated because its true. the various levels and styles of play on the various NS servers may be looked at as training stages, allowing ppl to learn the mod in different stages of difficulty and styles of expected play.
MW is (and has been referred to in DM posts) the "hardcore server" - both for the PvP enviroment and the attitude/rules of play that are different from the rest. *try begging or offering to buy gear in shout - make sure to announce your location - some one will come "talk" to you about it, i'm sure*



if y ou have a better server that you have found - by all means tell us. i may join you there!

One idea I had is to have unique weapons that require quite a bit of work to get, maybe similar to the work necessary to get the Strength/Wisdom rings. The unique weapons would only be slightly better than Tritons, but say need to be lvl35 or something to have. The only ideas I can put down to paper would be:
Thor's Hammer (I forget the name). The hammer would have a unique look and do extra damage against Giants. Also the toon would need to be a Barbarian. Also the toon would need Thor's Belt (forget the name) to wield. A toon would need to collect the heads or blood of all the unique Giants, get goop, get the lightning ball from Darken Rahl (just because I like killing him), etc.
Odin's Spear would be another example.
Just a thought . . .rip away. I have no idea how hard a thought like this is to implement.

Yes, I like that idea, similar to what I mentioned earlier. If new items are created, they should be on par or slightly better than triton or ns items. But to encourage pure classes or advantageous against one class of monsters, one can make the attaining of these new items part of a quest related to those classes in some way. Or how about requiring the quest to be only completable by a party. For example, two Paladins must take separate paths that have levers that will only open doors on his partner's side.

everyone seems to think i am complaining when i am not, i just would like to see an area that needed a party thats all, whats wrong with a magic immune level followed by a room that only magic works in and a few high lev locks to crack etc, it would need a party to suceed and no toon no matter how uber could solo. How about Gilons twin brother appearing like 5% of the time and then even with my dragon i am not going to feel safe going alone.
Ty for all your effort you guys that build and maintain the world, i think you guys are great and wasnt moaning about you, it was just my idea and sugggestion which i thought this thread was all about

Think Annys might actually be on to something there ( C, loofa while i really respect you guys, get your blood pressure checked ).
Ok first things first, a big thank you to all who have made NS such a wonderful and enjoyable experience. i fully understand thw difficulties and dangers involved in introduceing a uber task, and it's corresponding uber gear.
Now NWN2 is just around the corner so there is an argument to concentrate on that. I can relate to that. BUT, is there also not an argument not to let this game that has fascinated and enthraled us, not to go out with a whimper, but to go out with a bang. Individual challenges ..Nah, party challenges ... Nah, this mod, deserves, in fact demands better. I want to see a challenge that only the best toons (with the best gear) on any server can accomplish. I'm not talking about 3-5 toons, i'm talking 15-20 toons fully prepp'ed and ready for battle. This would provide a level of organization and discipline unheard of in NS history. Every class required to completed, not just a tactical awareness but a strategic overview required.
Buuuuut even the greatest challenges require reward, how uber is to be the gear ? you could make it utility rather than melee so as not to un-balance the game, wth, make it no gear at all, make it a red sig, somewhat like when G1 dies, then everyone who was there knows they were there have accomplished something special.
This is a great mod, it had produced some great players, it deserves to go out on a high, showing what can actually be accomplished when players work together, in that it mirrors real life. If those that can implemement this are listening, make it hard, make it harder that you think is possible, cause someway somehow, the great players of this mod, will find a way

i personally do not think it matters if you play East, MW, North, or West. It is a challenge anyway you look at it. Yes MW offers NS in a different style, but it is all the same. You can only KILL critter or another player so many times before you go hmmph im bored. what makes this Mod so special is those moments of Fingis spoke of the unexpected the hey where is this spawn OMG where did those come from to the what did we do wrong in that area to get out butts handed to us. Like it or not we all that is everyone who plays any of the servers are a community. The style of play might be a bit different from server to server, but again we al strive for the same thing to be the best we can on whatever server.If you are bored take a break or do something different in your leveling routine. there are tons of quest that never see the light of day on all the servers. Party yup with n00bs and take them to places to get gear dont hand it to them let them earn it. You wil be thanked so many times you will wear out you N & P button on your key board. Fang and pros have done a extremely awesoem job revamping and making epic areas! They should be thanked cionstantly for keep the mod fresh and challenging. well have fun cya in game

Think Issy is letting his wow side creep in. Anyone who knows anything knows he basically talking about a 'raid' party. On wow this can consist of upto 40 characters. Granted I'm not sure you need every class (but certainly recommended). I've also seen server messages go out on wow when a group defeats one of the bosses.
I like the idea, but I'm a realist I'd be looking at NS 5.
