NWN 2 :Forgotten Realms
I just wonder how long it will be before I can install it to
/home/tgpo/.wine/drive_c/program\ files/nwn2/
(thats a linux absolute path)
I know that they arent porting it, however WoW wasnt ported either and I managed to get it up and running.

updater
I found that my problem updating to version 1.02 was resolved by removing the disk from the machine before pushing the update button. Simple suggestion from the forums over on self help at bioware but it worked.

Wow, TGPO, you gonna try to run it on wine? awesome. I have never tried windows emulators much, not when I have VMWare, or Moka5 to run.
Pirate that XP! LOL.
In anycase with regard to Radeon 9550's, this should be more than enough for the game. I checked with the game creaters and they are under the impression that an AGP slotted, with 256 onboard DDR is a great card.
Might not be awesome by the $300-$400 standards, but is more than enough to run just about anything out there.
Low-end, give me a break, most people don't even have that much powah.
There will be a few lucky ones out there who install and dl the patch with no issues whatsoever, but that is hardly the standard. Even if the dl proceeds like the installer is supposed to work its going to be alot of time at it.
Performance issues tend to be heavy on the NVidea side, as far as slow game play, that will be the case no matter what card you have or how much ram you are pushing. Hell even if you have L2 cache the game will run funky.
I have a guy on North with a $400 card, and his runs slow as well. This isnt due to lag, or card problems but rather the code still has yet to be optimized.
It's a great game if you don't mind error-testing, and beta-testing software. If you are buying the game to play and have fun with, I still recommend waiting 6months-1 year.
Maybe by then they will have a Platinum Edition out with a nicer book, and most of the updates already built in.

error testing, beta testing NwN2
I do believe that the effort at making NwN a party effort and moving away from what amounts to first person shooter is worthy. Sure, even I have pasted it with the Baldurs Gate label but I am hopeful that given attention, the final result will be good.
Many of the workable plans for the servers had to include obstacles so high that even a tweaked out level 40 could still not overcome. This forced team play into being and the result is... a better playing, social game. Ubersaurus dead, calls out to feeble, weinie arm caster for a rez.... film at 11!
If NS is to wait, and I don't know why there can't be a beta version of some sort, I mean one of the members of my NwN group is on the way with a private module that he claims to be easier by far in some respects to NwN1 and ends up with a more detailed background for the effort.

Well, for one thing, there is no Neversummer server to connect to there yet!
Next, you may have to allow paths through your firewall to host. People do not like doing this but the info is in the "read me" file that came in with your successfully downloaded game. If you want mass confusion and not too much in the way of developer help, try http://nwn2forums.bioware.com/viewforum.html?forum=116
Lots of people have that question.

Hex: You cannot connect to a server cause you havn't read the entire thread. Go back and try 'Hooked on Phonics'.
Killroy: Good tip on installing the update. I'll try that one next time.
Another NWN2 patch. This one is 17.4 MB. Installing now, I'll keep everybody notified on problems that can happen.

LOL.
Originally there were a couple of things the folks at atari were promising,,two of which i was anxiously awaiting.
1. The introduction of an extra 20 levels, or more clearly 'level 60' toons.
2. New and improved mage spells, one of which was supposed to be, 'teleport'. I have yet to see either.
True, some of my diatribe may be due to the excess Guinness, however I have not logged my NW2 in about 4 months, so things might have been somewhat cleared up by now. I think I am still going to wait for the Platinum version to come out, cause the introductory software, well, anyone who has actually played it online, just knows it sucks.
