Just wanted to start a thread on the creatures that are in there so far, which I haven't heard too much talk about.
How do they seem so far? Generally balanced? Fun to battle? Not hard enough?
Admittedly, mobs in NS4 that are level range 1-5 aren't all that terribly interesting - it's not until later levels that you start mixing in some funky spells and PrC abilities before they start getting spicy. But, how are the mobs in NS5 looking so far?

Well, as a cat person i cant say i like the idea of killing bands of feral kittes ... lol
But aside from that, the lower level mobs are interesting and a nice change of pace. The only mob ive ran into so far that seems over-powered for its cr (so either nerf it somehow, or up its cr level / xp worth) would be the animated suits in the sanctum, in ghostwood. Those things can freaking hit HARD with a crit, and prob 1-hit kill anybody under level 5 or 6 (depending on the build)
Only other thing id suggest at this point is giving the people under level 5 a bandit-heavy area somewhere (like what was outside neversummer in ns4)
Keep up the good work, gaiz

Re: Creatures?
In addition to mobs in static areas, creatures in the random encounter maps would be good to know about too.
You should be encountering a bunch of bandits, savages, cult members, etc in those encounters...let me know if you're not...

Re: Creatures?
I rarely encounter humanoids in transitional encounters.
Its mainly this, in order of occurance : critters(bugs, spiders, ect) /low-level undead / pixies/goblin nitwits / human bandits (either the lone monk-esque highwaymen or a 3 pickpockets and a bandit)

Re: Creatures?
There's a lot that seem to qualify for an increase in its CR level / XP worth.
However, it could be said that its not the CR thats the problem, but rather the issues with the equipment on each playing character that is making adventuring more difficult than it ought to be. Nobody is wearing or wielding what they want to have, only what they have figured out so far, they can actually equip.
If I had the luxery of having the equipment appropriate and available to me for any given mob (like in NS4). Instead of having maybe one choice of equipment (many things like helms, cloaks don't seem to be equip-able at all) I could more fairly answer the question of mob CR/XP worth. As of now, everything seems so unbalanced.
Its getting better though, everytime I log in I see changes for the better. I've had the assumption that the equipment and stores will get fixed soon.

Re: Creatures?
I like the variety in low level creatures spread out across the starting lands, and pretty much foreclosing an accidental run-in with more powerful stuff. Heading across the Alpha Nexus, it seems the CR's increase to 3-6 mostly, but is there anything beyond that yet (in Alpha)? Or will it require the population of the Beta Nexus to reach later levels?
Incidentally, this also seems like a clever way to keep higher level players from running across too many lower ones accidentally, when PvP takes hold

Do the random encounters increase in CR as you level up, or is that determined by the Areas? They were interesting at first, but now killing a bunch of CR .33 creatures just makes travel take longer.Flailer wrote:In addition to mobs in static areas, creatures in the random encounter maps would be good to know about too.

But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer
