Release Date? beta?
Release Date? beta?
Release Date? beta? any news?;-)
Re: Release Date? beta?
We're still a long ways off from any sort of beta, but we're working as fast as we can given real life time constraints, etc. Believe me when I say this, the entire team would absolutely love to open the doors today if we could. We think we've got a pretty special NWN2 Persistent World baking in the oven

Re: Release Date? beta?
The NS 5 development team comes from a diverse background - unmarried, married, in school, working, etc. etc. Thus our daily responsibilities to our jobs and families take precedence. Believe me, I'd love to be able to sit in front of a computer and work on NS 5 all day, but my patients and surgical career would suffer. And my wife and two small children would miss my presence. And thats just ME, I'm not speaking for the other members of the development team.
We have laid down ambitious goals for a ground-up PW mod with a very challenging toolset, with little support from Bioware or OEI. And we do this in our SPARE TIME.
Thus it is very disappointing to see a post like yours, Aarkon, considering how much time and effort we have already spent over the past SIX YEARS developing, implementing and maintaining Neversummers 3, 3.5, and 4 without remuneration or other expectations outside of our own enjoyment of the game. Semi-regular canvassings for development help from our Neversummer playerbase and other developers occur, and we're grateful for help from anyone who is interested in lending a hand. Rather than complain, we would certainly appreciate more positive input and assistance if you have the skills and/or interest to do so.

Re: Release Date? beta?
Take your time, please. I can't afford the upgrades needed and I promised a really cute girl that I would not get any new video games until I'm done with this round of training.
So yeah, DON'T OPEN FOR BETA! I'm totally not ready yet!

Re: Release Date? beta?
all i am doing is voiciing what alot of players are thinking if that makes me a bad guy oh well ..
i check the forums when i can hoping for some nws or posts about progress ect and all we usaly get is some random pic by cely. this forum is dead because we have nothing to discuss due to lack of any info from the dev team. i realize you guys ar trying to setup most of the world from the start wich is alot of work given the size that neversummer has gotten to over the years. its the lack of any sort of news or the like that is upsetting. i know we all have RL stuff to deal with before any thing else but i also see how much work goes into ns4 vs how much we see or hear about in ns5. as far as we the masses know ns5 is at the same stage it was 6 months ago it could be alot further but we dont know because we get no news on it aside from a pic every sunday.
im not asking you to rush anything all im asking for is more news on progress and ideas you guys have so we may conrtibute in some fashion. i tried to help but with RL and other circumstances i couldent help as much as i wanted to. some examples of things the forums can help with on development are .. how to balance clerics and other overpowered classes how to best deal with limitations on other classes like spirit shamans what spells need tweaking or adjustment for better baalnce do we want custom races and other content do we need to adjust gensai abilitys to scale with levels as they are almost worthless ect ect ect all of this can be helped quite a bit by discussing them in the forums but we dont know what you guys think need adjusting or whatnot because we get no info from you.
all im asking for is more frequent updates and info on the status of the mod.

Re: Release Date? beta?
Fair enough - we'll try and post some more progress updates (not this week though since I'm a bit slammed with work and traveling until next week).
If you're interested in discussing balancing of classes and the stock spells - we'd welcome your input. However, probably don't need much from us to start discussing that.
I guess too since I posted all the info on the item properties for some balancing feedback and didn't actually get any I either assumed it was all correct or no one was interested in doing the analysis on it.
Also, I suppose it's a bit frustrating too to post requests for assistance on the boards and get no response. Or, the people that do offer help generally go away after about 2 weeks. I realize folks are here because they like to play, but if we've got a big enough community to pack the NWN1 server every night, seems like there's enough people with some passion and time on their hands to be productive in bringing NS5 closer to fruition.
I and a few others can honestly say we are working as hard as we possibly can on NS5, probably at the sacrifice of other things we shouldn't be sacrificing. Also, I'm constantly recruiting new talent from here, the NWN Vault, and the rest of the NWN2 community - as those that I've recently recruited can attest to.
So, we'll try and do some more detailed updates soon. In the meantime, feel free to discuss class and spell balancing if you'd like.

Re: Release Date? beta?
Addressing the fact NWN1 has enough players to fill the server on most nights, doesn't mean the newer players know about the NS4/5 forums. Most players are coming here via Gamespy since NS4 is one of the top 3 servers that are filled there. So maybe a few announcements server wide would help to clue in the general populace as to whats going on at any given point.

Re: Release Date? beta?
Actually, the biggest question on my mind at the mo' regarding NS5 is how its going to be implimented from a player-to-player interaction pov.
Are we going to use the same set up that we have in ns4? (factional) or are we going with a more traditional "big starting city, everybody's friendly/neutral to eachother. We'll leave it up to the players if they want to form guilds, ect. The rest of the world is there to plunder, fight and explore"

Re: Release Date? beta?
It's not the same as NS4, but it is similar. There are still lots of opportunities for PvP. There's no way we're turning NS5 into a care bear server, but of course if you prefer to PvE/M more than PvP there is plenty of room for that as well.

I wasnt implying a "Care bear" server
Since we have done a factional server before, thought maybe we'd do something dif for ns5 and start everybody off in the same large city, like other servers do. Let the players branch out / group together from there
Re: Release Date? beta?
Bingo... sort of The thing about Neversummer is that all of the devs past and present have wanted to offer something unique to the NWN community. We think we've done that with NS5 and hope that longtime NS3 and NS4 players will feel right at home in NS5, but at the same time will be shocked to see what we've done.Wolfarus wrote:start everybody off in the same large city, like other servers do.
