In (3.0E DMG) PnP a katana is a masterwork [censored] sword. (+1 bonus attack). And just because the description (which is flavor text) says it is the best sword-type ever made doesn't mean it is better than any other weapon in the game. That would be unbalanced.

On second thought, the idea sucks.

How about using:
SetCutsceneMode(oPlayer, TRUE);

when respawn is selected and:

SetCutsceneMode(oPlayer, FALSE);

after they are done spawning?

That's another issue that needs fixing. I've heard the NPC Clerics in the NS temple keep trying to cast but even their cure minor wounds won't get off...

Maybe somebody killed them all? When I have a problem seeing NPCs (and PCs for that matter) I can still interact with them, and they attack me. Agreed. You shouldn't and should never be able to bind in the enemy capitol. Just causes too many problems.

Another one for TC could be feeding/tending to animals, but I think the 'jobs' for them should focus on the different tribes more. I'm just pointing out that they could see it as a balance to the heavy nerf it recieved. Just answering why they would remove Mass Haste and make Haste effect more than one target.
