Did you have onboard video before? If so disable the graphics controller in the device manager.
Also, if you use Intel check their site for updated drivers.

I had the same problem a year and a half ago. It was a combination of a driver conflict with a new video card and the old onboard video and a incompatible driver. I have seen on many occasions where that system is flawed. So that isn't really that good of an analogy.

It is a function of Fdisk but because of NTFS, Fdisk is useless. And unless I am mistaken NTFS is the default for XP from the factory.

If the battery option didnt work, you might have a problem with the boot sector. It is possible to mess up your boot process by deleting a key file or two or a virus. It does sound like a motherboard issue. Have you popped the battery and unplugged? Sometimes when the battery is removed the cmos defaults to original settings. I say sometimes because machines act differently from one another. Did you put the drive in the other system as the master or as a slave?
